John Loeffler: February 22, 2016

Supreme Court Justice Antonin Scalia passed away last week. His death has stirred up a political firestorm as to who the next appointee will be. In this week’s boralogue, John takes a look at what the Constitution says, how it’s interpreted, and the dangers of judicial activism in the country’s highest court. Does the law mean what it says or does it mean what the elites want it to mean right now? We then shift gears as John analyzes a recent report from Russia’s newspaper, Pravda, detailing a high-level meeting between Vladimir Putin and Henry Kissinger. Worldwide financial systems may be coming to an end soon. Make ready the chessboard as international players begin jockey for position. Where will the United States land? Egypt, a strategic player on our global chessboard, is uniquely positioned in Middle East affairs. Joining us this week is Raymond Stock (www.meforum.org), Instructor of Arabic at Louisiana State University and former resident of Egypt, who discusses the country’s succession of leadership in the past seven years and its relationship with Israel and with the Islamists who thirst for control. Finally, we swing to China and the hundreds of millions of Christians who reside there. Elizabeth Kendal (www.elizabethkendal.com), Adjunct Research Fellow at Melbourne School of Theology, exposes the rarely reported persecution of Christians by the Communists party in China and the slow global infiltration of Marxist ideology into schools, media, and entertainment. John’s quote of the week: “In the ongoing environment of redefinition, the courts are discovering all sorts of ‘new’ rights in the Constitution that are created out of thin air. New rights trump old established rights, which are clearly established in the Constitution. If the law doesn’t mean what it says, does it mean anything at all?” As always, join us online for our Section 6 intelligence briefing featuring analysis by John on important stories highlighting emerging geopolitical trends around the world.
