Carl Kerby is the president and founder of Reasons for Hope. Prior to forming Reasons for Hope, he was a founding board member of Answers in Genesis and served there for 15 years. Carl is also a former air-traffic controller at Chicago-O’Hare. He is co-creator and host for the video series, ‘Weapons of Mass Instruction’ and presenter of the DVD series for teens, ‘Demolishing Strongholds.’ He’s the author of ‘Remote Control: The Power of Hollywood on Today’s Culture’, ‘Absotively, Posilutely: The Best Evidence for Creation’ and ‘Reasons for Hope in the Mosaic of Your Life’ and his ministry has produced a series of short videos called ‘deBUNKED.’

Jim began by mentioning some polls indicating that over time, the percentage of individuals who don’t believe in God is increasing.

What accounts for this? Carl noted that Scripture teaches that everyone knows there’s a God. So why are people rejecting that God? Satan has been at work and he pointed to government schools where we’ve allowed teachings about naturalistic processes and millions of years as the basis for creation.

So what’s happening is we’re reaping the fruit of the seeds of doubt that have been planted for generations in America.

Another factor is the family. Carl described that the amount of time a youngster spends in meaningful conversation each week with their parents is less than 10 minutes (According to Southern Baptist Research). Remove the mother and you can measure that statistic in seconds.

So take a look at a comparison. 900 hours per year in school where students are taught to think like the world. Then there’s 1,064 hours of television. Then there’s 936 hours per year playing video games with messages often antagonistic toward Christianity. It’s no wonder we’re losing a generation. And by the way, this doesn’t even include music listening and texting time!

Carl summarized by communicating that we’ve fallen prey to the world and have allowed Satan to get us so busy that we’re not doing what we’re called to do which, after God, is pouring ourselves into our families.

Jim also had Carl deal with the following:

–Jim noted that 60% of atheists say they were raised in church-going homes but at some point lost their faith. Why did this occur?

–Could it be that if people acknowledge that there is a God they must be accountable to Him?

–Does belief in God defy intellect?

–If God exists, why do we have pain and suffering?

–If God exists, why doesn’t he stop the evil in the world?
