Brannon Howse: Aired December 29, 2014
Denominational elite and evangelical intelligentsia are being challenged on social media and some of the elite are not responding to this apparent online revolution very well. Topic: Last week one denominational leader went after a group of us that were tweeting about apparent ecumenicalism and praise for the Pope by a well-known evangelical. This resulted in a well-known denominational leader tweeting that those that were going against the evangelical intelligentsia were just 15 angry people that are always angry about something. Thus was born #the15 that has gone viral with thousands saying they agree with the non-angry 15 because they are Biblical correct. Topic: JD Hall joins us to talk about why the grassroots is rebelling against the denominational elite and the evangelical intelligentsia. Topic: Folks are reporting back to Brannon from all over the country that families are running from denominational churches like the Southern Baptist Convention because they are tired of their legalism in one area and liberalism in another area. They are tired of their formulas, waste of money, and dictates from an elite group at the headquarters that many believe are overpaid and under accountable. Frankly, many are just tired of the good ole boy club, politics, moralizing, and sermons that are an inch deep and a mile wide. Many people tell me they get the distinct feeling the primary concern for most denominational churches and their headquarters is nickels and noses. Thus many families appear to be looking for nondenominational churches that are not tied to a denominational headquarters and all of its dictates, politics, and waste of precious resources. Topic: At the end of the day it seems that theology is way down the list for most of the denominational elite and evangelical intelligentsia. Even those that beat their chest about how important theology is to them seem to put politics ahead of theology and doctrine. Perhaps the #the15 is the start of an online movement that is going to start the needed discussion. Topic: We take your calls.
