Twisted Scripture, Twisted Theology (Part #4) Verses: Luke 10:27 and Matthew 22:37-40. Are Christians to love themselves? Verses: Joel 2:28-29. These verses are often used by individuals to claim that they are receiving visions from the Lord today and that they are prophets. What is the Day of the Lord? Understanding the meaning of this technical langurage helps us understand that this is not for today. Why do many scholars believe this passage is speaking to the nation of Israel? Verses: 2 Peter 3:10, I Thessalonians 5:2-5 and Matthew 24:43 are often used to describe the rapture as coming as a thief in the night. Why are these verses not referring to the rapture? Verses: 2 Peter 3:8. This verse is often used to declare that God could have taken 6,000 years and not six days to create everything we see in Genesis 1. Why is this an incorrect use of this passage and what is the context? Verse: Psalm 46:10 is a verse that is often used to justify contemplative prayer. Psalm 46:10 has nothing to do with praying. Verse: I Kings 19:9-14 and the still small voice of God that speaks to Elijah is often used by people today to say that they too need to hear this still small voice of God. Why are these verses not applicable to today’s Christians? Topic: We take your calls.
