WVW-Radio: Letter threatens to behead elementary school students in 3 Rhode Island schools according to CBS/AP report. Topic: Instead of spending limited taxpayer funds on raising the pay of police for the best possible candidates, training, equipment, and better communications, some towns are spending their money on multi-million dollar bonds to buy artificial turf that includes ground up car tires. NBC nightly news is now reporting on numerous soccer players that are contracting cancer. Some of the young players report how they had the rubber beads in their cuts, mouth, ears, and when they would blow their nose they would find the rubber beads from the artificial turf. While defenders of the fields are saying there is no proof that the fields are causing cancer, others point to the numerous young player that now have the same kind of cancer as well as the fact that tires are known to contain mercy, arsenic, benzene, lead, polycyclic aromatic hydrocarbons, and other carcinogens according to reports. So when will communities become less interested in entertainment and fun and games and become more concerned about fiscal responsibility, security and protection? When elected officials make bad financial and public policy decisions, sometimes the cost to the community is life-threatening in the long run.
