Topic Two: Mike Bickle of IHOP-KC wants the book A Fire Within: Teresa of Avila, John of the Cross and the Gospel of Prayer, “to be the manual for IHOP-KC”. Brannon reveals how Teresa of Avila was a mystic that promoted contemplative prayer. Brannon explains her four stages of prayer. The fourth stage she describes as including “the body is literally lifted into space.” The fourth stage also includes the individual experiencing a deifying union with God. Reports include that when entering the fourth stage, Teresa of Avila was often seen levitating. Why would Bickle want this book to be a manual for IHOP and why would “evangelical” and “Christian” leaders unite with Bickle and put him on the stage at their prayer event "The Response"? One pro-family leader has written that IHOP has a statement of faith that is solid. Mysticism and its proponents are going mainstream.
