Today's Show: BURNING OF THE BIBLES Chris discusses the 19th century work by John Dowling, "The Burning of the Bibles: Defense of the Protestant Version of the Scriptures Against the Attacks of Popish Apologists." The work was published in 1843 and documents how Catholic priests were burning bibles in Champlain, New York at this time. When the priests were confronted by Protestants about why they were burning bibles, they replied, "We haven't burned any Bibles." The reason, they argued, was because the "Protestant Bible" was not the Bible. Dowling uses this event to review the history of how Rome has viewed the Bible through the centuries.
