THE VIKING DECEPTION Chris discusses a documentary called "The Viking Deception," produced by NOVA in 2005. The story revolves around the controversial Vinland Map, which was claimed to be a 15th century Viking map that showed they had discovered America long before Columbus. As with so many allegedly ancient documents that have suddenly "appeared" in modern times, the provenance (i.e. origin) of the map has been surrounded with suspicion, and experts have been in disagreement about whether the map is an authentic Viking production, or a clever forgery created in the 20th century. We also learn that one of the chief suspects for having forged the map is a Jesuit priest named Father Josef Fischer.
