THE MANHATTAN DECLARATION TODAY Chris discusses a recent article concerning David Dockery, the President of Union University in Jackson, Tennessee who announced his intention to step down later this year. In his parting comments, Dockery expressed his intention to be more involved in the Manhattan Declaration -- the ecumenical agreement between the Orthodox, Roman Catholic and Protestant Evangelical churches, drafted for the alleged purpose of taking a stand against abortion and gay marriage, while promoting religious liberty. While the declaration claims it is not a "theological" document, it clearly defines each of the individual groups as "Christian," and declares that they are unified in "the Gospel." But what gospel do they mean? And since the document's appearance in 2009, what has been the fruit of it? Today, gay marriage seems to have invaded nearly all our institutions, including many allegedly "Christian" schools and universities. Wasn't that supposed to be prevented by this ecumenical union? And who were the faithful ministers that opposed this document, and what reasons did they give?
