The Missing Link in the Treaty of Tripoli? Chris discusses a new development
in understanding the controversial Treaty of Tripoli. Article 11 stated that the government of the
United States was not founded on the Christian religion. Most histories give the impression
that there was no objection to this article, while still others have attempted to argue that the
article was not part of the original (Arabic) treaty. But now, a new piece of evidence has come
to light, proving that at least one Christian leader in the government objected to the wording of
the treaty when it was written. This discussion also includes the latest refutation of Bill Fortenberry's
assertions about the treaty itself.
