Chris discusses some of the history of the upcoming Thanksgiving holiday surrounding the proclamation for the event given by Abraham Lincoln in 1863. The practice of a day of Thanksgiving dates back to the Pilgrims and early colonies, but individual states kept the practice each in their own way, and at different times. Yet it was during the American Civil War that President Lincoln chose to declare an official day for our nation to observe.
