THE PLYMOUTH PLANTATION Chris discusses the history of William Bradford, who arrived on the Mayflower with the Pilgrims at Plymouth in the year 1620. After an initial period of struggling to survive, followed by the death of the first governor, the Plymouth company would elect Bradford as their chief governor for a period of more than 30 years. He is considered one of history's great Christian heroes, and an original founder of America. In his lifetime, he recorded the classic work, "Of Plymouth Plantation," in which he described the reasons for coming to the new world, along with a history of how the early settlers endured various hardships and trials. Today, Chris focuses on Bradford's introduction, where he describes the hardships of the wars and inquisitions during the period of the Reformation. Bradford makes it clear that the persecutions suffered at the hands of Rome because of the preaching of the Gospel was part of what compelled these early pilgrims to come to America.
