Tom DeWeese is the president of American Policy Center. Tom is one of the nation’s leading advocates of individual liberty, free enterprise, private property rights, personal privacy, back-to-basics education and American sovereignty and independence and protecting our Constitutionally-guaranteed rights. He’s the author of Sustainable: The War on Free Enterprise, Private Property and Individuals and Erase a political novel.
As Congress gets ready for their August recess, there’s an all-out effort being made to pass the so-called infrastructure legislation before the break. This is a budget resolution that hasn’t been fully drafted and legislators are being asked to vote on it. It’s a bill that Senator Lindsey Graham called a “power grab” and also believes it will “…lead to the breakdown of law and order beyond what you see today.” Others warn that it will absorb suburbs into cities.
Jim sees this as something that will help collapse the infrastructure of the freedoms of America. Tom said, “What they’re creating is an infrastructure for a new top-down control.” Part of the problem is the aspects of “human infrastructure” as there’s talk about adding amnesty, the Green New Deal, federally controlled universal pre-school, taxpayer subsidized childcare, free community college and low income housing.
What’s the “bait” in all of this? It’s known as free money for states. However, with that money comes federal control and as Tom noted, one of the main targets of this restructure plan is private property rights. For example, the zoning to protect single family homes has been a target. Oregon was the first state to pass legislation to eliminate such zoning protections. The mayor of Minneapolis called zoning for single family homes racist.
Another factor in all of this is what Tom described as environmental racism. This has to do with the idea that lower income neighborhoods are often in areas where there are factories and industry and some feel it’s not fair for people to have to live there.
