This edition of Crosstalk sought to honor fathers and fatherhood, both of which are under attack in our day.  We see this as dad’s are often ridiculed during prime-time TV sitcoms, but in reality, they have a very important role in the home as even secular universities are finding out.

For example, Jim received an email article from Penn State University noting how adolescence can be an emotionally turbulent time.  However, new research from that university found that close, supportive relationships with parents, especially dads, at key points during adolescence, can stave off certain adjustments/problems.

Jim also noted this from the National Fatherhood Initiative:

According to the U.S. Census Bureau, 18.4 million (1 in 4) children live without a biological, step or adoptive father in the home.

Research shows that a father’s absence affects children in numerous unfortunate ways while a father’s presence makes a positive difference in the lives of both children and their mothers.

Children with involved fathers have a strong foundation for child well-being.  They are at lower risk for a host of poor childhood outcomes like infant mortality, low birth weight, emotional/behavioral problems, neglect and abuse, injury, obesity, poor school performance, teenage pregnancy, incarceration, alcohol and substance abuse, criminal activity and suicide.

Review this edition of Crosstalk as it set aside the heavy news items of the day and sought to celebrate fathers and fatherhood to the glory of God!
