There’s a battle brewing in our nation between capitalism, religion, moral values and what is called democratic socialism.  According to the guest on this Crosstalk, Marxists have been at work for decades to so-called ‘liberate’ us from our self-governed republic.  They want us to believe that communism disappeared when the Soviet empire fell. But this poisonous doctrine is still at work, weakening America from within by targeting cultural foundations without which we cannot maintain liberty.  These are faith, family and the free market.

Robert Knight is a former Los Angeles Times news editor and writer and was a media fellow at the Hoover Institution at Stanford University.  He’s a regular weekly columnist for The Washington Times, Townhall.com, OneNewsNow.com and others. Robert has held senior positions at the American Civil Rights Union, the Family Research Council, the Culture and Family Institute at Concerned Women for America, the Heritage Foundation, Coral Ridge Ministries and the Media Research Center.  He has co-authored three books and written 10 others including, ‘Liberty on the Brink: How the Left Plans to Steal Your Vote’ and ‘The Coming Communist Wave: What Happens If the Left Captures All Three Branches of Government.’

Robert wrote a column last week called ‘Ripping the Mask Off Democratic Socialism’ where he communicated that the ‘mask’ portrays a quest for equality, fairness and inclusion.  However what they really want is to undermine everything that makes us free and make everyone dependent upon the state. This is why he doesn’t make a big distinction between socialism and communism.

What about the Scandinavian nations?  Robert says they don’t tell you how the Swedes learned that socialism was destroying their country and economy until they initiated some free-market reforms.

He feels that supporters of democratic socialism don’t realize the ultimate goal because of the identity groups that have formed within the rubric of this ideology.  This would include the LGBTQ community, climate change supporters and anyone else who feels government is the answer to getting people to behave properly so that all of us can be free and equal.  These are folks who he believes are ‘glaringly ignorant’ of the track record of socialism, especially during the 20th century where it led to poverty, misery and mass murder.

Jim played audio where Senator Bernie Sanders describes in detail, democratic socialism.  In response, Robert noted that, ‘Well, Satan couldn’t have said it better himself because Satan knows that the best lies contain a bit of truth to them.’

What was it that Senator Sanders said that elicited this kind of response?  That and so much more can be heard when you review this vital Crosstalk broadcast.
