After the races final turn, a runner far back in the pack loses hope. There is no way he can ever break the tape. People who have addictions feel the same way, hopeless, until they come face to face with the Christ who can make them clean and free. Apart from that divine encounter there really is little hope for any addict to break free from the chains that bind him or her in repeated destructive behavior.
