When you hear “Afghanistan”, what comes to mind?  You may think of the Taliban taking over the country, Christian persecution, Americans that are left behind, the tragic loss of life of brave service members and more.  In other words, you may be wondering how anything related to Afghanistan can be positive.

Dr. Pry discusses the larger national security implications of the Biden Administration’s catastrophe in Afghanistan. The Afghanistan debacle could be the final straw that destroys U.S. credibility as the leader of the Free World. U.S. allies may now have such little trust in Washington that they think they are on their own. Japan, South Korea, Taiwan and others could start nuclear weapons programs to protect themselves. Worse, and more likely, U.S. allies (including NATO) may “go neutral” or cut deals with Russia and China to protect their national security. Thus, without fighting World War III, the block of totalitarian states and tyrannies that is Russia-China-North Korea-Iran may come to dominate the World Order. To make matters even worse, if Pakistan falls to radical Islam, virtually overnight the Taliban could become a nuclear threat to the U.S. homeland.

President Biden’s assurances — supposedly based on what he was told by his intelligence community — that the Afghan Armed Forces were fully able to defeat the Taliban proved to be colossally wrong.

Jim kicked off the main topic by playing comments from President Biden last month concerning how secure the Afghan government and military allegedly were.  According to the congressman, the experts had assured Congress and President Biden  that the Afghan army would be able to hold out against the Taliban for 3 or 4 years after we left.  

Dr. Pry analyzes the catastrophic events unfolding in Afghanistan, yet another failure of Washington elites, a catastrophe unforeseen by them, but foreseen by most average Americans. How could Washington blunder so? Gross incompetence. The U.S. should have withdrawn during the Winter, not during the fighting season, and should not have withdrawn close-air support from the Warthog fighter aircraft, the only thing keeping the Taliban at bay. Most fundamentally, the U.S. should never have engaged in “nation-building” in Iraq or Afghanistan. Especially in Afghanistan, most of the population still lives in the social and cultural equivalent of the Dark Ages. The idea of converting these ancient tribal societies into secular-humanist-feminist democracies was always doomed to fail.
