Ohio School Does Not Allow Worldview Weekend Speaker Usama Dakdok to Speak

By Associated Press

An Ohio school district withdrew permission Monday for a tea party event on school grounds featuring a speaker who community groups say is anti-Islamic and anti-Muslim.
Mansfield school district officials said they couldn't guarantee public safety if there were demonstrations at Mansfield Senior High School against speaker Usama Dakdok. He founded the Venice, Fla.-based Straight Way of Grace Ministry, which preaches conversion from Islam to Christianity.
Superintendent Dan Freund said the decision was based solely on concerns about student safety and not on the speech's presumed content. He said students use the school into the evening.
The local branch of the National Association for the Advancement of Colored People and the Ohio chapter of the Council on American-Islamic Relations urged the district to withdraw permission for the event.
