Statement from Dr. John C. Whitcomb

Statement from Dr. John C. Whitcomb

During the past five years, it has been my special privilege, under God, to answer more than 1,000 questions about the Bible on Brannon Howse’s radio program, Worldview Weekend Radio.

I want to praise the Lord for this great opportunity, and I am also grateful to both Brannon and the network which carries his daily program—VCY America—for faithfully distributing our weekly radio broadcast, Encounter God’s Truth. What an opportunity we have to teach the Bible to thousands of people whose faces we will never see! Please consider supporting these God-honoring broadcast ministries with your prayers and financial gifts.

Every two weeks, Brannon introduces our time together with these words: “Ask Dr. John.” I appreciate that, but at the same time, it places a very heavy responsibility upon me!

Over and over again, the Apostle Paul admonished his disciple Timothy to teach people what God has revealed to us in the Bible.

Consider the following:

  • “If you instruct the brethren in these things, you will be a good minister of Jesus Christ, nourished in the words of faith and of the good doctrine which you have carefully followed” (1 Tim. 4:6, NKJV).
  • “Take heed to yourself and to the doctrine. Continue in them, for in doing this you will save both yourself and those who hear you” (1 Tim. 4:16, NKJV).
  • “Be diligent to present yourself approved to God, a worker who does not need to be ashamed, rightly dividing the word of truth” (2 Tim. 2:15, NKJV).

2 Timothy 3:14-17 also gives us clear commands regarding out responsibilities in light of the inspired nature of Scripture and the incredible ability that it has to work in our lives, equipping us “for every good work” (NKJV).

Our Lord graciously warned us: “Everyone to whom much is given, from him much will be required” (Luke 12:48, NKJV).

That is so true in my life! I have been profoundly influenced by great teachers for many years.

One of our sons is preparing a detailed biography of his father, and many of these Divinely ordered connections have been restored to my memory. This has been so helpful in explaining how God enabled me to teach the Bible at a theological seminary for 39 years (1951-90) to well over 1,000 students. And even now, at the age of 92, wonderful opportunities are Divinely provided in churches and publications to participate in the Great Commission of our Lord Jesus Christ (Matt. 28:18-20).

Jesus died on the cross to pay for our sins, and He rose from the dead with a glorified body. Trust Him today—and then involve yourself in a study of God’s Holy Word, which is true from the beginning to the end!
