Warning the Church of the Religious Trojan Horse

Warning the Church of the Religious Trojan Horse <?xml:namespace prefix = o ns = "urn:schemas-microsoft-com:office:office" />
By Brannon S. Howse
The great burden of my heart is to use the projects of Worldview Weekend and Worldview Weekend Foundation to encourage and equip true believers to understand the great need to proclaim the gospel, suffer for the gospel, defend the gospel, and rejoice in the gospel. I am reminded of Acts 20:28-31 which declares:
Therefore take heed to yourselves and to all the flock, among which the Holy Spirit has made you overseers, to shepherd the church of God which He purchased with His own blood. For I know this, that after my departure savage wolves will come in among you, not sparing the flock.  Also from among yourselves men will rise up, speaking perverse things, to draw away the disciples after themselves. Therefore watch, and remember that for three years I did not cease to warn everyone night and day with tears.
The great need of the hour is for you and me to warn the church of the false teachers that have come in among the church through a religious Trojan horse. These false teachers are speaking perverse things. The word perverse actually means speaking distorted or twisted things. Today, false teachers are promoting a form of godliness but denying God as spoken of in 2 Timothy 3:5. Jude 3 also warns of the religious Trojan horse when we read, "for certain men have crept in unnoticed, who long ago were marked out for this condemnation, ungodly men, who turn the grace of our God into lewdness and deny the only Lord God and our Lord Jesus Christ."
2 Peter 2:1-2 further reveals the need for Christians to guard ourselves and the flock from the deception of the religious Trojan horse:
But there were also false prophets among the people, even as there will be false teachers among you, who will secretly bring in destructive heresies, even denying the Lord who bought them, and bring on themselves swift destruction. And many will follow their destructive ways, because of whom the way of truth will be blasphemed.
It is from this growing false, dominate church that I believe Christians are going to receive a great deal of persecution. It is for this reason we must equip and train the church to understand that persecution is to be expected for the true believer that is contending for the gospel. 2 Timothy 3:12 tells us to expect this:
Yes, and all who desire to live godly in Christ Jesus will suffer persecution.
It is for this reason Worldview Weekend and Worldview Weekend Foundation is working to equip and encourage the church to proclaim the gospel, suffer for the gospel, defend the gospel, and rejoice in the gospel. Here are some verses that I pray will encourage you as they have me. Defend the Gospel:  1 Timothy 6:20, 2 Timothy 1:13, 2:25, Proclaim The Gospel: I Corinthians 15:3-4,  2 Timothy 1:8, 2:15, 4:2Suffer for the Gospel:  2 Timothy 1:8, 2:3, 2:8-9, 3:12, 4:2  Rejoice in the Gospel:  Romans 8:18, 2 Timothy 4:7-8
Romans 8:18 is such an encouragement to me:
For I consider that the sufferings of this present time are not worthy to be compared with the glory which shall be revealed in us.
2 Timothy 4:7-8 is what I pray will be true of you and of me:
I have fought the good fight, I have finished the race, I have kept the faith.  Finally, there is laid up for me the crown of righteousness, which the Lord, the righteous Judge, will give to me on that Day, and not to me only but also to all who have loved His appearing.
