Now the serpent was more subtil [subtle] than any beast of the field which the Lord God had made.  And he said unto the woman, Yea, hath God said, Ye shall not eat of every tree of the garden?
And the woman said unto the serpent, We may eat of the fruit of the trees of the garden:
But of the fruit of the tree which is in the midst of the garden, God hath said, Ye shall not eat of it, neither shall ye touch it, lest ye die.

And the serpent said unto the woman, Ye shall not surely die.” (Genesis 3:1-4)

INTRODUCTION:  Why is There Death and Suffering in the World?
        As we see hundreds of thousands of illegal people coming across our border, and drug cartels pushing drugs across our border, you may wonder, what is going on?  As we see crime soaring out of control and calling for police and law enforcement agencies to be “de-funded”, you may wonder, what is going on?  As you learn of racial hatred actually being taught in schools in America, you may wonder, what is going on?  The increasing push of some toward Marxist Communism by so-called progressives may cause you to wonder and ask, what is going on?  We see the beginning of the answer in Genesis 3:1-4 quoted above.

        In Genesis 3:5 & 6, we see the answer disclosed.  Because of the dogmatic answer of the serpent (you shall  not surely die), the woman ate,and gave to her husband and he ate.  They believed the serpent rather than God and disobeyed God.  They did surely die, although not immediately!  The Bible says in Romans 5:12, “Therefore, just as through one man [the husband of the woman- whom God had named Adam] sin entered the world, and death through sin, and thus death spread to all men, because all sinned.”

        It is because of this historical fact, according to God’s Word, that the world is as we see it today.  Most do not believe this is true history!

        Many who are professing to be ministers of the Glorious Gospel of Jesus Christ, do not believe in the book of Genesis.  They assert such things as “Science has proven that the earth and universe has been here billions of years.”  They choose to believe the dogmatic assertion of the serpent, made without any evidence or proof at all, and thus, their belief is that God’s Word is not true.  To be clear, Science, so called, has proven nothing about “billions of years”.  In the ninth chapter of Job, Job asks the question, “How can a man be right with God?”  In Job 9:7 & 8a, it is stated, “He commands the sun, and it does not rise:  He seals off the stars; He alone spreads out the heavens”.  In Psalm 104:2b, it is stated that [God]” stretches out the heavens like a curtain.” 

        “He [God] made the stars also.” (Genesis 1:16b)  He calls them by name.  “He counts (determines) the number of the stars:  He calls them all by name.” (Psalm 147:4)  “Lift up your eyes on high, and behold who has created these things, that brings out their host by number:  He calls them all by names by the greatness of His might, for that He is strong in power; not one fails.” (Isaiah 40:26)  God made all of the universe.  He set the stars where He wanted them and He stretches out the Heavens. Interestingly, astrophysicists have now come to the conclusion that the universe is expanding.

The Bible, which Dr. Martyn Lloyd-Jones called the most relevant book in the world, shows us in the first three chapters that Adam and Eve sinned against God, choosing to believe the dogmatic lie of the serpent rather than the truth of God’s Word to them and thus, they sinned against God.  Romans 5:12 says, “sin entered the world and death by sin”; or as Dr. Martyn Lloyd-Jones says, “invaded”.

        A brief look at the Biblical account of history from God’s revelation and the fact that it accounts for the condition of the world today may also help us to understand that God has provided the way of avoiding the consequences of this and our own sin.  The Lord Jesus Christ is the Way!  He is the Truth.  He is also the Life.

I.  Historical Truth

        Many assert that the first eleven chapters of Genesis is allegory – not historical fact.  However, there are only two possibilities.  Either it is all true or it is not.  Either we believe this Word of the One who created all things, or we believe the assertion of creatures, many of whom have been deceived by Charles Darwin’s book Origin of the Species.  However, the Human Genome Project and discovery of DNA prove without equivocation that Darwin and the great lie of evolution (Dr. Lloyd-Jones says evilution) is false.

        The Truth, as stated in Genesis 3, is that Adam and Eve fell for the lie of the serpent.  They succumbed to the attack on God’s Word and sinned against God  and through sin, death entered into the world!  But we see in Romans 3:21-24 that “But now the righteousness of God apart from the law is revealed, being witnessed by the Law and the Prophets, even the righteousness of God, through faith in Jesus Christ, to all and on all who believe.  For there is no difference; for all have sinned and fall short of the glory of God, being justified freely by His grace through the redemption that is in Christ Jesus”.  The entire world is in confusion and chaos.  But God has provided the way out of this hopelessness, and wretchedness, and despair.  One must realize that God’s way is the only way.  It is based entirely on God’s love!  He, and He alone, provides the way!  “For God so loved the world, that he gave his only begotten Son, that whosoever believeth in him should not perish, but have everlasting life.” (John 3:16)

God reveals His plan and His purpose.  However, it was first revealed by the Lord God in Genesis 3:15 while Adam and Eve were still in the Garden of Eden and  before they were banished.  God said to the serpent., “And I will put enmity between you and the woman, and between your seed and her seed.  He shall bruise your head, and you shall bruise His heel.”  (Genesis 3:15)  That is true history, and Jesus was crucified, and in that crucifixion he “destroyed” the works of the devil.

Hebrews 2:14 states, “Forasmuch then as the children are partakers of flesh and blood, He also Himself likewise took part of the same; that through death he might destroy him that had the power of death, that is, the devil; and deliver them who through fear of death were all their lifetime subject to bondage.”  The seed of the woman – the Lord Jesus Christ bruised the serpent’s head to destroy him though his heel was bruised.  The Lord Jesus Christ died and rose from the dead to destroy the works of the devil as God had stated in Genesis 3:15.

        There are some that continue to say this is mere allegory, but as the Lord Jesus Christ says in the 19th chapter of Matthew, verses four and five “…Have you not read, that He which made them at the beginning made them male and female…?”  Thus, He was authenticating the true historical nature of Genesis.  He who is Truth itself is stating that Genesis is true history!  The Word of God is telling us here that Genesis is true!

In Luke 11:21, the Lord Jesus Christ also says, “When a strong man armed keeps  his palace, his goods are in peace.”  In Acts, the risen Lord Jesus says to Saul of Tarsus (Apostle Paul), “[I am sending you to the Gentiles] to open their eyes, and to turn them from darkness to light, and from the power of Satan unto God, that they may receive forgiveness of sins and inheritance among them which are sanctified by faith that is in me.” (Acts 26: 17 & 18)

        Thus, we see that the world is as it is today because they need to:

1) have their eyes opened, and 2) to be turned from darkness to light and from the power of Satan that they may receive forgiveness of sins.

II.  What is the Remedy?

        It is told us first – historically – in Genesis 3:15 that He is going to send the seed of the woman – the Lord Jesus Christ; He will have his heel bruised; and He will destroy the devil. That is the message of the whole Bible.  Everything, without exception, is the history of God working out that message!  It is an announcement of what God has said He was going to do and it is an account of what God reveals that He has done!  This is true history.  Many do not know it, and of those that may know it, many do not believe it is true.  However, in Colossians the Lord God tells us, “He has delivered us from the power of darkness and conveyed [translated] us into the kingdom of the Son of His love, in whom we have redemption through His blood, the forgiveness of sins.”
(Colossians 1:13-14)

        The Lord Jesus Christ is identified as the last Adam.  “And so it is written, The first man Adam was made a living soul; the last Adam was made a quickening spirit.”
(1 Corinthians 15:45)  In Romans, we see that in Adam “…sin entered the world, and death by sin”, but in the Lord Jesus Christ, [His] righteousness, the free gift of the righteousness of Christ, came upon all who surrender their will unto Him in true repentance and place their trust in the Lord Jesus Christ.

        The Lord Jesus Christ’s heel was bruised – He was crucified – but He bruised the head of the serpent, and it is a mortal wound.  All who look to the Lord Jesus Christ can come out of darkness and into the light, and from the power of Satan unto God.  The Lord Jesus Christ has destroyed the devil. John 12:31 & 32 states this historical truth that goes all the way back to Genesis three – “Now is the judgment of this world:  now shall the prince of this world be cast out.  And I, if I be lifted up from the earth, will draw all men unto me.”

        Therefore, the Holy historical truth from Genesis Chapter three is set forth. In the very act of crucifixion – His heel being bruised – the Lord Jesus Christ destroyed the works of the devil and calls all unto Himself.

        “Come unto me, all ye that labor and are heavy laden, and I will give you rest.  Take my yoke upon you, and learn of me; for I am meek and lowly in heart:  and ye shall find rest unto your souls.” (Matthew 11:28-30)

        It is all true!  Don’t be deceived.  It is all a revelation from God of what he was going to do and what he has done for you and for me.  It is also for all those that we know, and to go and tell them God’s Holy Truth, that they might believe God’s Holy Truth.  The Lord Jesus Christ is coming again for all who believe in Him.

“This is a faithful saying, and worthy of all acceptation, that Christ Jesus came into the world to save sinners, of whom I am chief.

“Howbeit for this cause, I obtained mercy, that in me first Jesus Christ might show forth all longsuffering, for a pattern to them which should hereafter believe on Him to life everlasting.
 “Now unto the King eternal, immortal, invisible, the only wise God, be honor and glory for ever and ever. Amen.”  (1 Timothy 1:15-17)
