Brannon Howse: February 3, 2016

Topic: Moody Bible Institute at one time was perhaps THE standard of what a Bible college should be. Brannon talks about how he grew up with Moody Monthly Magazine and hearing their broadcasts on the radio. Brannon even had the honor of speaking to the students of Moody Bible College many years ago in their chapel service. Brannon is sad to report that this once great institution is now promoting a personal spiritual formation retreat. The retreat website calls for observing monastic prayer. Why would anyone study monastic prayer? If one wants to practice the spiritual formation of monks or nuns then why not go all the way and wear a robe and take a vow of poverty and celibacy? The website does not mention the Bible or Bible study even one time. Yet, the retreat website does mention silent, solitude, bringing Christ’s presence into one another’s personal stories. What does that even mean? Topic: What is the difference between community and Biblical fellowship? The Moody retreat website talks about community but community is not the same thing as fellowship and fellowship is only had around the Word of God and not around personal feelings and spiritual experiences that have roots in mysticism. Topic: Brannon begins the program by addressing the King James Only issue that was raised by a caller the day before. Why is the King James Only crowd wrong?Topic: We take your calls.
