Topic: Who was Marquis de Lafayette? As we approach the Fourth of July, Brannon tells us about this often forgotten American hero of the American Revolution that traveled from France to America to volunteer as a military leader to fight against the British. Lafayette was born in a wealthy aristocrat family and when his mother died when he was very young he became a very rich young man. Lafayette used his riches to purchase a ship and travel to America in hopes of fighting with the American Founders. In fact, when he arrived and knocked on the door of where the Continental Congress was meeting he was initially turned away. Lafayette was committed as a major general and went on to be a great American hero. Learn how Lafayette built a friendship with General George Washington that was so deep that Lafayette named his son George Washington Lafayette. Learn how Lafayette took American soil back with him to France so that he might be buried in this soil. Today his grave in Paris is marked with an American flag. Is America worthy today of such men as Lafayette? Do we have men willing to risk their life for liberty and freedom? Have far too many Christians become pious and thus surrendered to evil?
