At this time of year we’re reminded of the preciousness and majesty of the name of Jesus. Verses such as Matthew 1:21 and Luke 1:31 bear this out.
What all of us must remember is that the preciousness of that name doesn’t end with the Christmas story. Read portions of Scripture such as John 8:58, John 10:24-30, John 20:31, Acts 4:3-13, Acts 5:12-42, Acts 9:28-29, I Corinthians 6:9-11 and Philippians 2:9-11 and you’ll see that the name of Jesus is precious from birth to death to resurrection and will be at His return.
As such, that name is not to be taken lightly. Unfortunately some are. In fact, some have been and continue to go so far as to blaspheme that name. For example:
–The Netflix movie ‘The First Temptation of Christ’ depicts Jesus as a homosexual and the virgin Mary as a pot smoking adulterer.
–A year ago saw the release of ‘The Last Hangover.’ This was a spoof of the apostles who awaken to find Jesus is missing and must piece together events of the previous night’s wild Last Supper.
–There’s been word concerning a New Testament themed simulator video game called ‘I Am Jesus Christ.’ Is it real or just a publicity stunt?
