Crosstalk: December 28, 2016

Last Friday as we prepared for Christmas and Israel prepared for Hanukkah, the Obama administration was working behind the scenes, orchestrating non-opposition to a U.N. Security Council resolution (Res. #2334) in condemnation of Israel. Some are calling this a vicious stabbing of Israel in the back. Another called it the greatest betrayal of Israel in American history.

Joining Crosstalk to discuss this issue was Dr. Jimmy DeYoung. Dr. DeYoung is a student of Bible prophecy and expert on the Middle East. He leads a ministry, Prophecy Today, and has spent many years living in Israel as well as having led may trips there. In addition to being a noted conference speaker, he constantly monitors news regarding Israel and the Middle East and provides a unique blend of political, biblical and prophetic insight that is absent from the media today.

Jim Schneider quoted the U.N. as having said the following:

'The Security Council reaffirmed this afternoon (referring to last Friday) that Israel's establishment of settlements in Palestinian territory, occupied since 1967, including East Jerusalem, had no legal validity constituting a flagrant violation under international law and a major obstacle to the visions of two states living side-by-side in peace and security within internationally recognized borders.'

As Dr. DeYoung noted, understanding what took place in 1967 is the key to this issue. At that time there was a six-day war. Israel was under attack from Lebanon and Syria to the north, Jordan from the east and Egypt from the south. In addition, inside the body-politic of the Jewish state were the Palestinian people led by Yasser Arafat.

During the 5th day of that war, the Israeli Defense Force went up on the Temple Mount and took it back for the first time in 2,000 years.

The war had moved Syria out of the Golan Heights. It also moved Jordan across the Jordan River (onto the east side) and moved Egypt back through the Sinai.

Ariel Sharon, the Minister of Housing (who later became the Prime Minister) opened up the first line of defense by opening up the first Jewish settlements into the Golan Heights, what's known as the West Bank (Judea and Samaria) and the Sinai.

Dr. DeYoung believes the timing of this resolution was intentional. In fact, Israeli Prime Minister Benjamin Netanyahu spoke through his representative indicating that Israel has absolute evidence that this situation was programmed by President Obama and the concern is that with the time he has left he may do something even worse.

Israel is consistently portrayed as a land thief and the nation that's instilling violence. Do the statistics bear this out? In the history of the world, has there ever been a Palestinian state? Get the answers to these and other questions when you review this vital Crosstalk broadcast.
