Last evening, President Donald Trump gave his first State of the Union address before a joint session of Congress, describing how far America has come in the first year of his presidency.

While this program focused primarily upon listener comments concerning the president's address, Jim led into those comments with some news items of interest They included:

--President Trump praised his accomplishments and listed new initiatives in his bold plan to build a safe, strong and proud America.
--A CBN news clip addressed the president's desire to cut back on government regulations and taxes, dealing with immigration reform, rebuilding America's infrastructure, Democrat Joe Manchin's respect for the office, Republicans that spoke highly of the address, the president's promise to protect religious liberty, and his commitment to God.
--A train carrying members of Congress to a retreat in West Virginia slammed into a dump truck today.
--Republican Trey Gowdy of South Carolina, the Chairman of the House Oversight Committee, has announced that he will not be seeking re-election.
--A CBS News poll shows that viewers approved of the president's first State of the Union address.
--Glum Democrats ripped President Trump's call for unity with one even walking out after a patriotic chant.
--While some Democrat House lawmakers boycotted the speech, others brought illegal aliens, DACA recipients ('Dreamers') those facing deportation, feminist activists, sexual assault accusers and a transgender.
--The Council on American Islamic Relations (CAIR) tweeted that they prefer the five pillars of Islam and a vibrant and inclusive American democracy over what they see as Trump's four pillars of dismantling America's immigration system.
--President Trump criticized NFL flag protests.
