Crosstalk: January 10, 2019

The Scripture says in Acts 17:26And hath made of one blood all nations of men for to dwell on all the face of the earth, and hath determined the times before appointed, and the bounds of their habitation;” friends, borders are placed between nations. On Tuesday night, President Trump took up funding America’s southern border wall directly to the American people in a nationwide address from the Oval Office at the White House. The move was criticized by Senate Minority Leader, Chuck Schumer, and House Speaker, Nancy Pelosi.

After re-airing President Trump’s address to the nation, Jim immediately explains to Crosstalk listeners what happened next. How Nancy Pelosi and Chuch Schumer took to the airwaves themselves in rebuttal; hoping to belittle the President for using the Oval Office for making such a speech, to which in their opinion, was to manufacture a crisis at the border and fill Americans with fear. Despite what facts the President had to share from the past two years alone regarding the 266,000 arrests made of aliens with criminal records; these that have been charged or convicted of 100,000 assaults, 30,000 sex crimes and 4,000 violent killings, there was not even a glimpse of compromise.

But, what happened to the democrats from the past? Back in 2009, Chuck Schumer himself made the case for a southern border wall and for dealing with illegal aliens (Crosstalk clip).  In 1995, during a State of the Union Address, then President Bill Clinton advocated for border security. Many may remember his quote “We are a nation of immigrants but, we are also a nation of laws. It is wrong and ultimately self defeating for a nation of immigrants to permit the kind of abuse of our immigration laws we have seen in recent years and we must do more to stop it.” (Crosstalk clip) In 2006, Hillary Clinton called for comprehensive immigration reform which included “physical barriers” (Crosstalk clip). Even former US Border Control Chief (Obama Administration), Mark Morgan, says “I believe in what President Trump is doing; he’s absolutely correct.” (Crosstalk clip/Fox News) Morgan goes on to say that he believes the lack of support from the left now, is for a “political point.”

No, it is not a good time in America when so many federal employees are not getting paid due to the current government shutdown (now day 18). No, it is not a good time in America when political parties are at such stalemate with no immediate answers. Nor, is it a good time in America when parents have lost children as a result of the criminal activity of illegal aliens. Of course, not all aliens are criminals, but when we consider the criminal statistics, first and foremost those not entering legally, something clearly must be done.
