Police have been placed on a heightened state of alert after the murders of Wenjian Liu and Rafael Ramos in New York City. Along with these killings, America has seen a string of startling accounts including the following: --2 Boston officers kicked, punched and choked by 6 teenagers while they were making an arrest. --On December 28th, Fox News reported that a Los Angeles police department patrol car was fired on in an unprovoked attack that also put police officers around that city on tactical alert. --On New Years Day 2 West Virginia police officers were injured in a shootout after a traffic stop involving a stolen SUV and a truck with 2 dead bodies inside. CNSNews.com reported that the officers were conducting the stop when the driver of the truck shot at them with a handgun wounding both officers. --Fox News ran a year-end story reporting that gun deaths of officers jumped 56% n 2014 and included 15 ambush assaults. Overall, officers killed in the line of duty in 2014 saw a 24% jump from the previous year.
