Crosstalk: March 9, 2020

Here’s a brief list of stories presented by Jim on this week’s edition of the ‘Round-Up’:

–Senate Minority Leader Chuck Schumer openly threatened Justices Neil Gorsuch and Brett Kavanaugh at a Planned Parenthood rally outside the steps of the Supreme Court.  Jim played the audio of the senator’s comments. 

–Chief Justice John Roberts calls Schumer’s threatening remarks irresponsible and dangerous.

–The American Bar Association says there’s no place for such threats as put forth by Chuck Schumer. 

–Chuck Schumer apologizes on the Senate floor for his remarks, saying they weren’t targeted at the justices, they were meant for the Republican Party and leadership. 

–All eyes are on Chief Justice John Roberts in a case requiring abortion providers to have hospital admitting privileges to treat patients with emergency complications.

–Michael Bloomberg ends his presidential run and has endorsed Joe Biden.

–Senator Elizabeth Warren bows out of presidential race after disappointing showing during ‘Super Tuesday.’

–Speaker of the House Nancy Pelosi doubled-down on numerous efforts to ‘out’ President Trump despite whispers of a potential retirement in 2017. 

–A federal judge orders Hillary Clinton to answer questions concerning why she set up a private e-mail system to conduct government business while she was Secretary of State.

–Despite being an uncontested incumbent, President Trump managed to break several turn-out and vote count records in ‘blue’ states and key ‘swing’ states.

–Republican Governor Jim Justice signed into law a bill to protect babies who survive abortions from infanticide.  

–A youth pastor at a mega-church, already jailed for impregnating a 16 year old girl, is now accused of trying to hire a hit-man to murder the head of the church as well as the judge who sentenced him to prison. 

–The Board of Supervisors in Maricopa County, Arizona, voted to become a Second Amendment preservation county.

–The U.S. Supreme Court announced Monday it will hear a case challenging the constitutionality of the Affordable Care Act (Obamacare).

–Iranians have posted several videos on social media featuring devout Shiites licking the holy shrines in defiance of the coronavirus.

–President Trump signed an 8.3 billion dollar spending bill aimed at fighting the coronavirus outbreak.  

–Fears about a worsening coronavirus outbreak have led shoppers in the U.S. and other hard-hit nations to begin stocking up on supplies to fill pandemic pantries.

–The U.S. Surgeon General says not to stockpile masks as they are not effective at protecting people from the coronavirus, but if healthcare providers can’t get masks in order to care for sick patients, it puts them and our communities at risk.

–Health and Human Services Secretary Alex Azar says a coronavirus vaccine is on track to be developed in the next year or so.

–President Trump has donated his quarterly salary to the U.S. Department of Health and Human Services to help fight the coronavirus.
