Mat Staver is the founder and chairman of Liberty Counsel, a nonprofit litigation, education and policy organization dedicated to advancing religious liberty, the sanctity of human life and the family.
According to Mat, yesterday's election was like a 'Back to the Future' moment in history. He's referring to the scene in the movie of the same name where you have two different tangents based upon two different decisions or events that happen in history. We had a choice as a nation to choose Clinton or Trump.
Whatever one thinks of Trump, it was clear what Clinton wanted to do. Mat feels she would destroy the fabric of America.
Trump, on the other hand, has some flaws. In spite of those, he elevated Kellyanne Conway, an evangelical Christian, to the number one position in his campaign. No other campaign in the history of recent politics has ever done that on the Republican side. In addition, no president, going all the way back even before Reagan, has ever communicated that they will have a litmus test for justices and that they have to be pro-life. Trump also defied the pollsters, the liberal media and the attempts to tilt the election toward Clinton. Trump weathered all of that and has gone on to become the 45th president of the United States.
Trump's slogan was, 'Make America Great Again'. What made America great, according to Mat, was the foundational belief that there is a God who created us in his image and that he infused us with certain inalienable rights including life, liberty and the pursuit of happiness. The government's role is to protect those liberties.
Trump talked about Billy Graham, about protecting people of faith and churches, the sanctity of human life and appointing pro-life justices. In contrast, Clinton, in a presidential debate, essentially said that she'd abort a child up to its last day in the womb.
Mat articulated that these candidates have two distinct visions of how to make America great. The foundational principles of belief in God, that he is our Creator and that he infuses us with certain inalienable rights need to be restored and protected.
