Freedoms of the press and of speech are foundationally important to America.  In this week's boralogue, John looks at the mainstream media's push to silence anyone who contradicts their narrative. Politicians and media outlets have also begun inaccurately retelling history.  We have to correct the record when this happens.  We don't violate freedom of speech or freedom of the press by doing this; we uphold them.

What is actually happening in the Gaza Strip and what is being reported in the media are two very different things.  Barbara Kay (www.nationalpost.com), Columnist with the National Post, corrects the record, covering what Hamas leadership really did after Israel pulled out in 2005 and how the area has fared since.  She also gives her views on the possible Deal of the Century peace plan.

The Communist Chinese government has started trying to influence the content of sermons.  Gina Goh (www.persecution.org), Southeast Asia Regional Manager for International Christian Concern, examines how the topic of socialism will potentially be extolled from the pulpit in some Chinese state churches.

The Province of Quebec has passed Bill 21 outlawing religious symbols, including clothing, in the public sector.  Michael Higgins (www.sacredheart.edu), Professor of Catholic Thought at Sacred Heart University, joins us to discuss the politics surrounding Bill 21, including conflicts between Quebec and the Canadian national government and the potential difficulty in enforcing the bill.

John’s quote of the week:

"History is a lot more complex than people today would like to think.  When you look at things in historical context, they do not match what we are being fed today as history.  We have to correct the facts of history in the context of history.  That is what freedom of the press and freedom of speech is all about."
