You may wonder how such deception can happen to people who claim to be evangelicals, but bear in mind that 1 Timothy 4:1 warns, “Now the Spirit expressly says that in latter times some will depart from the faith, giving heed to deceiving spirits and doctrines of demons.” Although apostasy in various forms has been around since the beginning of the Church, there is a difference between “generic” apostasy and the end-of-times “great apostasy” described in Revelation. The pattern of some falling away from traditionally held biblical truths will increase until what Revelation describes as the great apostasy or the apostasy when the Antichrist will set himself up in the temple to be worshipped as god. That is the apex or crescendo of apostasy and is unique to the end times.

Meanwhile, we are dealing with general apostasy. This is caused by the “doctrines of demons” mentioned in 1 Timothy 4. So what are some of the doctrines of demons? To answer that, we’ll have to look at Reason #8.
