Word-of-Faither James Robison Joins Pro-Family Leaders & Major False Teachers In Christian Activism
By Brannon S. Howse
“Two weeks ago I experienced a great moment in my Christian journey. Seventy-two leaders joined together in supernatural spiritual unity….”—James Robison, July 8, 2011 (posted at jamesrobison.net)
Well-known Baptist turned Word-of-Faither James Robison effervesced about a collection of evangelical leaders who should have known better than to “join together in spiritual unity” with him. The assembly listed on this website was rather lengthy, but the list included a few of the more recognizable evangelical or pro-family leaders such as:
● Tony Perkins, Family Research Council;
● Don Wildmon, American Family Association;
● Richard Land, SBC Ethics & Religious Liberty Commission;
● Tony Evans, Oak Cliff Bible Fellowship;
● Vonettte Bright, Campus Crusade for Christ.
Robison also listed a number of well-known teachers within the Word of Faith movement, but some of the most recognizable names include:
● Kenneth Copeland, Kenneth Copeland Ministries;
● Creflo Dollar, World Changers Church International;
● Joyce Meyer, Joyce Meyer Ministries.
In his online article, Robison declared that:
"…[I]t is imperative that those chosen to lead have enough wisdom to understand the importance of sitting in the counsel of the godly, not the ungodly….I am convinced God is going to use these national leaders to help inspire a spiritual awakening…."
His statement presupposes that these leaders are “sitting in the counsel of the godly”—a contention which I say is wrong. How about Christian leaders who have enough wisdom not to unite with and give credibility to false teachers? What kind of spiritual awakening can occur when Christian and pro-family leaders unite with false teachers of the Word of Faith movement and New Apostolic Reformation? Not the biblical kind, I’m afraid.
In his article, Robison also lauded several other questionable gatherings of “godly counsel”:
I have been so blessed to host two national Leadership Summits in September 2010 and June 2011 attended by leaders who understand the importance of faith, family and freedom. They recognize that God and truth are under assault and that we must boldly proclaim liberty throughout the land….In these two leadership gatherings, I witnessed the spiritual unity that Jesus prayed for in John 17.
While I agree that God and truth are under assault, I believe it is under assault largely because many of America’s Christian leaders do not understand or obey the biblical directive that forbids uniting with false teachers. God’s Word is being compromised because Christian leaders have placed Christian activism and reclaiming America over biblical theology and defending the Church from false teaching.
