In a recent interview between TV host Brannon Howse and journalist Leo Hohmann, a startling revelation emerged from a newly released report by the U.S. Army War College. The report suggests that the United States must prepare for large-scale combat operations in a future marked by advanced autonomous weapons systems, artificial intelligence, and a casualty rate not witnessed since World War II. The interview delves into the implications of this report that includes the call for ending an all volunteer military and implementing a draft as the U.S. Army and military prepare for is clearly described as World War III.
The Changing Face of Warfare
The report from the U.S. Army War College comes as the defense establishment transitions from two decades of counterinsurgency operations to a future dominated by large-scale combat. It emphasizes the need to adapt to multi-domain warfare, encompassing everything from EMP attacks to cyber warfare and traditional kinetic combat. But what truly sets this future apart is the potential for a casualty rate unseen since World War II. The report projected casualty rate of 3,600 per day.
Leo Hohmann points out the evident question: How can the military be so certain of a casualty rate higher than that of World War II? He suggests that the assumption was that high-tech weapons would lead to fewer casualties, but the ongoing conflict between Russia and Ukraine is challenging that belief.
The Harsh Reality in Ukraine
The war in Ukraine has exposed the limitations of relying on an all-volunteer force and the inadequacy of military technology in reducing casualties. The interview highlights how, contrary to expectations, high-tech warfare has led to a significant number of daily casualties on the battlefield, earning it the grim moniker of a "meat grinder."
The U.S. military currently faces a dire recruiting shortfall and a dwindling Individual Ready Reserve, with only 76,000 members compared to 700,000 in 1973. These numbers are insufficient to fill the gaps in the active force or replace casualties during large-scale combat operations.
The Call for a Draft
The interview focuses on the report's mention of "partial conscription" as a potential solution to the military's manpower crisis. Brannon Howse and Leo Hohmann express concerns about a draft as the military industrial complex and U.S. military is known for sacrificing countless lives with no intention of winning. In addition Howse and Hohmann pointed out that America does not have a national security interest in Ukraine.
They caution that a draft might be presented as a solution should the nation experience a major shock event, such as a mushroom cloud on American soil. They urge the American people to remain vigilant and not fall for propaganda that might lead to hasty decisions.
One crucial aspect of the report is its acknowledgment of the importance of using propaganda against the American people. This tactic, observed in Ukraine, aims to manipulate public perception and deceive citizens regarding the true nature of events. Leo Hohmann emphasizes that it is crucial for the American public to remain informed and skeptical of any official narratives.
