Just the News reports that Walt Disney World in Florida will host an LGBTQ+ conference this fall that organizers are calling the world's largest – as the resort and state Governor Ron DeSantis continue to spar over sexual-orientation and gender-identity issues.

An activist group calling itself Out & Equal that promotes special rights and privileges for LGBTQs in the workplace, is hosting its 2023 Workplace Summit for three days in September, according to the organization's website. The group says the summit “is the largest LGBTQ+ conference in the world, with more than 5,000 attendees every year.”

DeSantis last month signed a law ending Disney's special self-governing status over its resort and the surrounding area. The legislation came largely in response to Disney's protests against Florida's Parental Rights in Education bill.

Out & Equal's website features a photo of Mickey Mouse and states the summit will be held in Orlando, but it does not specify that it will be at the resort itself. However, Chief Marketing Officer Michael Chamberlain confirmed Wednesday to The Tampa Bay Times the conference will be held at the Disney resort. 

The Walt Disney Company is listed as a top partner on the organization's website. Other top partners include Dell Technologies, JPMorgan Chase, Apple and Uber. The group also has government partners, including the CIA, the FDA, the State Department and the U.S. Department of Agriculture.

An explosion at a chocolate factory in Pennsylvania on Friday resulted in tragedy.

On Friday evening, a devastating explosion rocked a chocolate factory in Pennsylvania, tragically leaving two people dead, nine unaccounted for, and eight others injured.

West Reading Borough Police Department Chief Wayne Holben confirmed to Fox News the blast occurred at the R.M. Palmer Co. chocolate factory in West Reading, about 60 miles northwest of Philadelphia. The company has been in business for more than 70 years.

Shocking footage of the explosion emerged on social media.

“The explosion was so big that it moved that building four feet forward,” Mayor Samantha Kaag told reporters. She said, “It wasn't a great scene to come into. It was pretty scary.”

Popular fast-food chain Panera Bread announced last week it will begin to roll out the cashless payment system called Amazon One at select locations across the United States.

Amazon One is not only cashless but “contactless,” or, as they say in the retail industry, “frictionless,” in a move that has been growing in popularity since its launch and especially since the Covid lockdowns that began in 2020.

The payment terminals have been rolled out at many Whole Foods locations, and have been adopted by other stores as well.

Panera Bread explains more about this rollout in a press release, published on March 22nd, which states:

“Today, Panera Bread announced its planned rollout of Amazon One as a loyalty identification for MyPanera, its industry-leading loyalty program with 52+ million members, and a contactless payment method. The technology is deployed at select bakery-cafes in Panera’s hometown of St. Louis with plans to expand to additional locations in the coming months. 

“Panera is the first national restaurant company to use Amazon One as both a way for guests to pay and access their loyalty account with their palm. Amazon One will bring an even more personalized touch to the Panera dining experience. Guests who link their MyPanera account to Amazon One will enjoy the convenience of fast payments, as well as tailored meal recommendations from Panera associates based on their preferences and previous orders. After a simple scan of the palm, Panera associates will be able to greet guests by name, communicate their available rewards, reorder their favorite menu items, or take another order of their choice, extending the guest experience into a true and meaningful relationship. When they are done ordering, guests can simply scan their palm again to pay.”

The Winepress News reports in an update on the Fed’s planned CBDC, that more U.S. lawmakers are introducing bills that would prevent the implementation of a Federal Reserve digital dollar and central bank digital currency.

Last month House Majority Whip Tom Emmer of Minnesota (R), along with a smattering of other co-sponsors, introduced a bill that would ban the implementation of a CBDC, called The CBDC Anti-Surveillance State Act.

Now more recently Senator Ted Cruz of Texas (R), joined by Senators Mike Braun of Indiana (R) and Chuck Grassley of Iowa (R), has also introduced a bill to ban the use and implementation of a CBDC by the Feds.

Cruz explained on his website:

“Not only would this CBDC model centralize Americans’ financial information, leaving it vulnerable to attack, it could be used as a direct surveillance tool into the private transactions of Americans.”

In an additional statement he said, “The federal government has no authority to unilaterally establish a central bank currency. This bill goes a long way in making sure big government doesn’t attempt to centralize or control cryptocurrency and instead, allows it to thrive in the United States. We should be empowering entrepreneurs, enabling innovation, and increasing individual freedom—not stifling it.”

Senator Braun stated:

“Allowing the government to centralize Americans’ financial information and increase surveillance of Americans’ financial activity is simply a bad idea. The federal government should not have even more control over your own money. I support this legislation to allow entrepreneurship to prosper and keep the federal government from further encroaching on your privacy rights.”

Cruz’s proposal, along with the same original cosponsors, first introduced this bill almost one year ago to date, but Cruz has now reintroduced it with some modifications to it.

Last week amidst widespread and continued banking fears and bank runs, the Federal Reserve announced the launch of their instant payment system called FedNow, which is expected to be released this July, which will ultimately be used to launch a CBDC in the future.

On this same topic, Mount Rainier National Park says it will transition to a fully cashless system and stop accepting cash for entrance fees and campgrounds beginning in May.

In a release, the park said it will be fully cashless starting on May 26. Visitors who can only pay with cash will be able to purchase a prepaid pass from local vendors before coming to the park.

The Mount Rainier National Park Annual Pass, private vehicle passes, motorcycle passes, individual passes and backcountry permits may be purchased online at recreation.gov.

Greg Dudgeon, park superintendent for Mount Rainier National Park, said the new cashless system will improve the visitor experience and manage visitor money more effectively, adding that:

“Entrance fees are an important source of revenue national parks use to improve the visitor experience. Going cashless reduces the amount of time park staff spend handling cash, increases the amount of fee revenue available to support critical projects and visitor services and improves accountability while also reducing risk.”

Park Public Information Officer Kevin Bacher said right now only 2% of visitors pay with cash for entry. He said they are currently working to partner with local businesses in the towns outside Mount Rainier National Park, so that people paying with cash can buy passes from those vendors before entering. 

He told King 5 in Seattle they are trying to get the word out to people now and give alternate options for those who only have cash for payment.

The park said advance campground reservations will still be available through recreation.gov while payments for first-come, first-served campsites will be cashless. Concession-run hotels, bookstores and restaurants inside the park will still accept cash or card payments, the park said in the release.

Beginning on March 28th, the supermarket giant Walmart will start charging 42 cents per bag for delivery orders in New Jersey, and 10 cents for each bag for in-store or pickup purchases.

This rule applies to both plastic and paper.

This was not Walmart’s decision but rather was forced to comply to the state’s law.

According to Walmart’s website, the company explains that New Jersey says this is being implemented due to an increase in plastic pollution.

Starting March 28, 2023, there will be a fee of 42 cents per bag for delivery.

The company wrote:

“Walmart has provided free reusable bags in New Jersey while customers, the state legislation, and other retailers adjust to this new law. If you opt out of buying more reusable bags, please leave totes or reusable bags at your doorstep. The State of New Jersey defines single-use carryout bags as ones made of paper or plastic that are not reusable. The State of New Jersey passed this legislation in response to the growing problem of plastic pollution.”

New Jersey enacted this law on May 4th, 2022, and has now gone into effect for Walmart and other businesses. The New Jersey law also affects plastic platters and straws.

The state explains on their website:

“Starting May 4, 2022, New Jersey retail stores, grocery stores and food service businesses may not provide or sell single-use plastic carryout bags and polystyrene foam food service products. Single-use paper carryout bags are allowed to be provided or sold, except by grocery stores equal to or larger than 2500 square feet, which may only provide or sell reusable carryout bags. After November 4, 2021, plastic straws may be provided only upon the request of the customer.”

The additional 10 cent charge has already been in effect in New Jersey and other states since January 1st of this year.

The Epoch Times reports that the federal government has been using Americans’ income and gun purchases to conduct warrantless tracking and deny Second Amendment rights. 

Agents from the Bureau of Alcohol, Tobacco, Firearms and Explosives (ATF) gave salary estimates to the Federal Bureau of Investigation (FBI) as the reason to have people’s firearms purchases monitored.

Erich Pratt, senior vice president of Gun Owners of America (GOA), told The Epoch Times that the ATF’s activities “monitoring innocent people” is a serious problem. “Congress needs to rein in this rogue agency by either exercising oversight over it or abolishing the unconstitutional agency altogether,” said Pratt.

These revelations come from new documents viewed by The Epoch Times which it received from its Freedom of Information Act (FOIA) lawsuit. The latest production from the FOIA has hundreds of pages—many redacted—showing ATF agents requesting warrantless surveillance by the FBI for lawful reasons such as low salaries, past firearm purchases, and sending “bizarre” messages.

The Epoch Times exclusively reported in January about the FBI’s secret monitoring service that tracks people by the National Instant Criminal Background Check System (NICS) for gun purchases for mere “potential violations of law.”

Gun rights activists say federal law enforcement is missing the mark.

“The poor usually live in areas with the most crime and thus have a strong need to arm themselves heavily,” Pratt said. “So targeting the indigent is simply another avenue for gun grabbers to implement a backdoor gun ban.”

ATF headquarters will not disclose how it acquired the other suspects’ incomes, employment information, and past gun purchases found in the FOIA forms.

But there’s really only one place where the ATF could obtain the incomes of Americans, and that would be the IRS. Would anyone doubt that this administration uses cross-agency referencing to investigate American citizens with whom it has political disagreements?

Cargo theft, led by food and beverage products, is surging across the United States.

According to a report by CNBC, food and beverage coming into port or in a warehouse is number-one on the list of products being targeted by freight thieves who are increasing their criminal activity across the national supply chain. 

Scott Cornell, transportation lead and crime and theft specialist at insurance provider Travelers, told CNBC it’s a sign of the economic times, and adding further pressure to the high prices faced by consumers during an elevated inflation environment.

Cornell stated:

“During the financial downturn in 2008, we saw a theft shift towards food and beverage where it stayed in that spot until the end of 2019. In 2020, we saw the target move to household goods, because we were all at home. In 2021, electronic theft was high due to some shortages as a result of all the working and schooling from home.”

Food inflation has moderated, but remains up almost 10% year over year, according to the latest CPI data from February, released earlier this month. Meat, poultry, fish and egg prices fell for the first time since December 2021 in February, but egg prices, a prime example of what is historically volatile food inflation, remain up 55.4% from a year ago.

Cornell said that while household goods and electronics are still high on the list of cargo thieves, “Now, we’re starting to see food and beverage commodities pull up front.”

Another large bank is entering troubled territory and now it’s spreading to Western Europe.

Newsweek reports that the German Deutsche Bank is facing fears of a collapse after shares dropped 11 percent last Friday (March 24), bringing those stocks down to a total of 29 percent since the bank chaos began on March 8.

Chris Beauchamp, chief market analyst at IG Group, told Reuters:

“We are still on edge waiting for another domino to fall, and Deutsche is clearly the next one on everyone's minds (fairly or unfairly). Looks like the banking crisis hasn't been entirely put to bed.”

This week, Swiss bank Credit Suisse was rescued by rival UBS in a last-minute deal after Credit Suisse saw a plunge in share prices following the SVB collapse.

Deutsche Bank's latest slump, driven partly by the Credit Suisse deal, signals that confidence in the banking system remains low. It marks the third week of decline for European banks, which fell 4.2 percent in the wake of the financial turmoil.

Although the government-brokered rescue of Credit Suisse was believed to have stabilized European markets, “it now appears the contagion has been hard to contain,” according to Newsweek. Because holders of $17 billion in bonds from Credit Suisse were not written into the agreement, they were left with nothing, furthering fears about Deutsche Bank.

Beware of buying prescription drugs in Mexico.

Since 2019, the Drug Enforcement Administration and State Department have known that Mexican pharmacies are pushing over-the-counter pills laced with fentanyl, according to a new report.

The Los Angeles Times reports that the federal agencies were notified by the family of Brennan Harrell, 29, who died of an overdose in 2019 after buying pills in a drug store in Cabo San Lucas.

Chelsea Shover, a UCLA researcher investigating the sale of adulterated medicines in Mexico, told the Times:

“This case could have been a canary in the coal mine and could have prevented more deaths that have surely occurred since then.”

Shover has led a study showing counterfeit medicines are being sold in Mexico. She said:

“We knew when we detected counterfeits that there would be people who died, but it’s deeply concerning that there was compelling evidence of this a few years ago, and yet there wasn’t any kind of public information campaign about it.”

The LA Times reported that the DEA and State Department did not answer questions about the incident.

According to Patients Beyond Borders, Americans using foreign sources save up to 70 percent on dental, cosmetic, and weight-loss procedures and medicines, according to Fox News.

Mary Harrell, Brennan’s mother, told the LA Times that the family arranged for toxicology tests in the U.S. after the Mexican autopsy determined he died of a heart attack and an obstructed airway. Toxicology showed he died of a drug overdose and had a high level of fentanyl.

Dr. Christopher Young, Ventura County’s chief medical examiner who did the test here in the U.S., said he contacted the DEA.

Mary Harrell and her husband, Bob, said they were interviewed by the DEA and that DEA agents eventually told them they believed their son’s death was due to a counterfeit pill he bought at a pharmacy in Cabo San Lucas. She said the DEA led her to believe action might take place, but it didn’t.

The State Department’s current warning for buying medicines in Mexico reads: “Exercise caution when purchasing medication overseas. Pharmaceuticals, both over the counter and requiring a prescription in the United States, are often readily available for purchase with little controls. Counterfeit medication is common and may prove to be ineffective, the wrong strength, or contain dangerous ingredients. Medication should be purchased in consultation with a medical professional and from reputable establishments.”
