Crosstalk: February 24, 2016
Since the death of Supreme Court Justice Antonin Scalia, there's been considerable debate as to if, when and should President Obama bring forth a nominee prior to the November election. He believes it's his constitutional duty to do so and that the Senate needs to do their part in this process as well. News has been circulating within the last 24 hrs. that back when he was a senator, current Vice President Joe Biden wanted to shut down the nomination process and block President George H.W. Bush's judicial picks. Jim provided audio from the Senate floor to prove the point. Senate Judiciary Chair Chuck Grassley has called on the Senate to follow what he dubbed, the Biden rule, whereby the Senate should be aware of their constitutional authority to provide or withhold consent as the circumstances require. Jim also reported on liberal groups that are pushing the Obama administration to quickly nominate a like-minded justice. Combined, George Soros and the Ford Foundation (not connected to the Ford Motor Company) gave at least 50 million dollars and possibly more to organizations that hope to push the Supreme Court further to the left through Obama's potential nominee. On the other hand, CBS and NBC blasted the Republican roadblock that they allege is an attempt to not follow the Constitution. On February 16th, NBC also said that Democrats were firing back to support the iron clad Constitution. Then on the 17th, the New York Times identified 6 of the liberal organizations behind the push to have Obama bring forth a nominee. Nearly all of the groups have one donor in common: Liberal billionaire George Soros. Jim then moved on to discussion of the political candidates. On that topic, he asked listeners to respond to the following question: 'Which candidate best reflects your values, your moral compass and why?' Find out which candidate came out on top by reviewing this Crosstalk broadcast.
