Sometimes little things give you a clearer picture of the culture than do the bigger things. In this week's boralogue, John recalls several conversations he has had with everyday people, including the need for better education, a stronger worldview, and consistency in media. We are about freedom in this country, not right trumping or socialism. Plus, John and Carol celebrate their 40th wedding anniversary this weekend!
Will there ever be reform in Islam and, if so, what would that look like? We welcome back Salim Mansur (www.politicalscience.uwo.ca), Professor of Political Science at the University of Western Ontario, who discusses the relationship between Islam and other religions and if reform were to happen, those within Islam may need to understand the past if they are to shape the future.
Why is it that socialism starts out so appealing but then always ends in disaster? Kevin Williamson (www.nationalreview.com), Roving Correspondent for National Review, joins us to examine the reasons why socialism fails on both a cultural and an economic level. The proponents fail in their planning and always choose the narrative over reality. When that happens, the people suffer.
John finishes up this week reviewing the State of the Union, including the reactions from different members and groups in Congress as well as some of the more interesting reactions from the always fair and honest media. He also analyzes the weaponization of language.
John’s quote of the week:
"We are about freedom in this country. We have lost track of that as everyone claws and scraps for an ever-increasing pile of what they call rights. They are shredding the foundations and if the foundations be destroyed, it will all be undone."
