As promised, President Trump made his nomination to fill the vacant Supreme Court position known on Saturday. That person is Federal Appeals Court Judge Amy Coney Barrett whose nomination hearing is set to begin October 12th.

Joining Jim to discuss news surrounding this nominee was Mat Staver. Mat is a constitutional attorney, founder and chairman of Liberty Counsel. He’s argued before all levels of court including landmark cases before the U.S. Supreme Court. Mat is an author as well as speaker on the radio programs, Faith and Freedom and Freedom’s Call.

Barrett’s background includes graduating number one in her law school class at Notre Dame as well as acting as a clerk for Supreme Court Justice Antonin Scalia. Also, when she was nominated to the Court of Appeals for the 7th Circuit, every clerk sent a letter of support saying how Barrett was qualified to serve on the court. That’s in spite of those who said they had differences of opinion on some issues. Mat indicated that every single faculty member of Notre Dame felt the same way, even those whose have differing judicial philosophies.

Barrett is married and has 7 children, 2 who were adopted from Haiti. If she gets through the confirmation hearings, she will be the first person on the Supreme Court to have school age children.

Chuck Schumer and Pat Lahey have said that the American Bar Association evaluation is the ‘gold standard’ by which judicial candidates are judged. In 2017, a majority of the standing committee of the ABA believed that Barrett was well qualified. Interestingly, Chuck Schumer is now saying that Barrett is wildly out of the mainstream.

We’re six weeks away from election day and the political tension has increased due to the unexpected vacancy on the Supreme Court due to the passing of Justice Ruth Bader Ginsburg.

The heightened tension shows as statements have come out desiring to do whatever it takes to stop President Trump, including new impeachment proceedings against him.

Earlier today it was announced that the votes are there to pass the president’s nominee. He will reveal his choice this Saturday.

Early discussion dealt with Mat’s appearance yesterday before the 9th Circuit Court of Appeals (via Zoom) concerning Harvest Rock Church and Harvest International Ministry in California. For 80% of the state, California bans all worship including home Bible studies and fellowship.

Although the Supreme Court vacancy is occurring at this late stage of his term, President Trump is calling upon the Senate to fill it. Ginsburg, Joe Biden, Bernie Sanders, Nancy Pelosi, Senator Elizabeth Warren and Senator Tim Kaine have made past statements that would seem to support this idea. President Obama did his job by nominating Merrick Garland while the Senate did their job by refusing to advance him. Why are Democrats opposed to this process now that President Trump is in the White House?
