LOVING PARENTS RUN FROM GERMANY: Seek Political Asylum in the U.S.Image

German parents who care for their children enough to want to homeschool them are running from their homeland as if they were political dissidents. That's because in Germany, where a secular government doesn't like the idea of homeschool families "indoctrinating" their children with Christianity, those parents pretty much are political dissidents.Hard to believe it's true in another Western World country, but the reality is that, over the past several years, persecution of homeschoolers is intensifying in Germany for precisely that reason. Attorney Mike Donnelly is a representative with the Home School Legal Defense Association (HSLDA), and he's available for interviews to shed a bright light on this dark situation."German homeschoolers are regularly fined thousands of dollars, sent to prison or have the custody of their children taken away, simply because they choose to home educate," explains Donnelly, whose organization recently filed a political asylum case on behalf of one fleeing German family. "By seeing to the successful application of our political asylum case, we will provide a path by which other German homeschool families can escape persecution like this." The HSLDA estimates there are roughly 400 homeschool families in Germany that are either tied up in courts or are continuing to teach in secret. And that doesn't include other families like HSLDA's recent client that have simply fled the country. For more regarding this remarkably quiet crime of oppression readily occurring in a modern-day European nation, schedule an interview with Mike Donnelly today.ABOUT YOUR GUEST: The following guest expert is available to discuss home schooling and various education issues in the news.Michael P. The most comprehensive study shows a 20 - 30 percentile point gap in favor of homeschoolers. For example if the public school average is the 50th percentile a homeschooler will on average be in the 70th or 80th percentile.Homeschooling is the fastest growing education sector in America, growing at a rate of 7 to 15 percent per year. Some of the Reasons people homeschool include: 1. Safety of their children in public school, crime, drugs, and negative peer socialization. 2. The ability to teach from a religious perspective. 3. The belief that parents, in conjunction with a homeschool support group, can provide a better education than either a public or private school.4. Desire to spend more time together as family for better quality of family life.Homeschool graduates are more involved in community activities than the average public school student.Homeschool graduates are significantly more politically active than the average public school student. Over 74 percent of homeschooled graduates aged 18-24 voted in an election in the past 5 years. Compare this to a token 29 percent of public schooled graduates who voted during that same time period. Homeschooled students consistently win national geographic and spelling bee contests. THIS HSLDA PRESS RELEASE MAY BE HELPFUL WITH SHOW PREP:Home School Legal Defense AssociationP.O. Box 3000, Purcellville, VA 20134________________________________________________________________________For Immediate Release November 17, 2008 HSLDA FILES POLITICAL ASYLUM CASEPurcellville, VA – A homeschooling family who recently fled Germany has filed for political asylum in the United States. "The persecution of homeschoolers in Germany has dramatically intensified," said HSLDA staff attorney Michael P. Donnelly. "They are regularly fined thousands of dollars, sent to prison, or have the custody of their children taken away simply because they choose to home educate." Uwe and Hannelore Romeike formerly of Bissingen, Germany along with their five children made it to the United States in August of this year. The family has settled in Eastern Tennessee where they have been warmly welcomed by local homeschool supporters and are being assisted by HSLDA. Uwe Romeike, a music teacher, and his wife Hannelore, are grateful for the support they have received from HSLDA and American homeschoolers. "The freedom we have to homeschool our children in Tennessee is wonderful. We don't have to worry about looking over our shoulder anymore wondering when the youth welfare officials will come or how much money we have to pay in fines," said Mrs. Romeike."We have received so much love and support," said Mr. Romeike. "Our children are no longer homesick. They are so happy to be homeschooled here. We left family members, our home, and a wonderful community in Germany, but the well-being of our children made it necessary." "By supporting a political asylum application we will be able to shine the light of truth on this real and ongoing problem. A successful application will provide a path to safety for German homeschool families escaping persecution," said Donnelly. HSLDA, with support from the Alliance Defense Fund, has hired immigration attorney Will Humble of Houston, Texas to handle this groundbreaking case. For more information about Germany's persecution of homeschoolers, visit www.hslda.org/germany.Home School Legal Defense Association (HSLDA) is a 25 year old, 85,000 member non-profit organization and the preeminent national association advocating the legal right of parents to homeschool their children. ****
